At Ruby’s Cakes Shoppe & Pastries, our favorite ingredient is a simple, magical word: "Yes!" Want a cake that looks like a shimmering peacock, a superhero with a flowing cape, or a five-layer wedding masterpiece adorned with fresh roses? If you can dream it up, we are ready to bake it.
We are a local, family-run sweet spot where wild imaginations come to life and every batter is whipped up from scratch with pure love—and top-secret, never-shared recipes.
A Love Affair with Baking
Our story doesn't start in a culinary school; it starts with a lifelong dream and a major sweet tooth. Growing up in the Philippines, our founder and master baker, Ruby, always dreamed of making America her home. After moving to the States and marrying her husband, Peteris, she found her true calling by accident after tasting an unforgettable strawberry mango cake at a birthday party.
When she tried to recreate that magic at home using a store-bought box mix, she was utterly disappointed by the taste. Right then and there, she vowed to learn how to bake the hard way: completely from scratch.
Nine Flops and a Whole Lot of Heart
Baking didn't come easy at first! Ruby famously failed nine times trying to master her light-as-air chiffon cake. Her kitchen pan was overflowing, her kitchen was a mess, but she refused to give up. After a professional chef gave her a simple piece of advice—honey, find a deeper pan—she nailed it on her tenth try. She has never looked back since.
For years, Ruby turned her home into an all-night flavor lab. She worked a full-time day job and baked until dawn, packing three home refrigerators with custom orders. Her cakes became the legendary stars of neighborhood potlucks until her friends finally told her the obvious truth: it was time to open a real bakery.
Meet the Dynamic Duo
When you walk through our doors today, you are welcomed right into our family. At the front of the shop, you’ll usually find Peteris smiling behind the register. He handles the business side and happily calls himself "Ruby's caddy," leaving the kitchen magic to his wife. He loves telling customers that Ruby is the "Tiger Woods of baking" because she can effortlessly separate a hundred eggs in the blink of an eye!
In the back, Ruby leads the artistry alongside our wonderful design team— NAMES OF TEAM —pouring their hearts into every single frost and flourish. And while Ruby will enthusiastically say "yes" to almost any custom design challenge you bring through the door, there is one thing she will never do: share her secret recipes!
